Cartier, the forgotten Tank Allongée


In 1922, Cartier released for the first time the “Mini” Tank Allongée, a slimmer version of the classic Tank Model which, because to its smaller diameter, was better suited to a female clientele, while remaining appealing to men.

Over time, this model has become increasingly rare and somewhat forgotten,usually in favor of the Tank Cintrée which is also an elongated version of the classic tank but  a larger case diameter. 

This Tank Allongée has been produced by Cartier in many different forms: in yellow and white gold, of course, but also some rarer models can be found with diamonds, classic or even sometimes yellow, set on the case, the winder and sometimes even on the dial. Some even rarer pieces has been seen with sapphires or rubies setting. 

The bracelets on the Tank Allongée also come in a variety of shapes, from classic leather to precious metal mesh. As for the movement, on most recent models is Quartz, while older models are automatic or even hand-winding.
